New Brushes

Landscape painting, Oil on Canvas, 240mm x 190mm

In my chase to be a better Tonalist artist, I think I mentioned a few posts ago about getting some new brushes to try and be a bit better at blending on canvas, well this is the first oil landscape painting with a few of the new brushes I picked up.

These brushes have the super soft bristles that I’m really not that acquainted with – I think they’re sable? And I think they were really designed for acrylic or perhaps watercolor. Well not anymore.

Even though this is the first attempt with them, I saw some encouraging effects that make me excited to keep working on integrating them into my process. The areas that jump out to me most are the areas on each side of where the foreground interacts with the sky and the line where the white of clouds touch the bare sky.
