Motion in Charcoal
The great thing about leaning more towards the tonal side of drawing is that, if done well, creates this sort of ambient scene. Of course, the other side of that coin is that ‘ambient’ could also mean stagnant.
My goal with this charcoal drawing was to see if I could insert some movement into the scene and I was going to do that through some finely considered blending. I think that came through nicely here.
To me, it feels like the blending of the sky almost portrays the feeling of wind blowing across the landscape.
This landscape drawing was also another effort in integrating white tones. These create very interesting effects – well, at least to me. I think the white overlay was pretty much a success in this work, but I think there’s a lot more to explore with the process.
