Re-thinking Past Work

Re-thinking Past Work

Landscape Drawing, 1050mm x 530mm, Charcoal on paper

I made this drawing sometime last year. It was one of the first larger landscapes in charcoal I did. Initially, I wasn’t a fan. Well. actually, I was a fan of it working on it. That kind of changed when it was done. Something about the styling of the buildings on the waterfront kind of didn’t do it for me.

One of the building in the drawing. Probably now, my favorite parts.

Now, I look back and I’m kind of excited by it. I think I need to do more. The styled or simplified buildings have a sort of triumphant feel to them somehow. Not sure how to exactly describe it, but I think there needs to be a lot more time given to make a few more drawings like this.

Thoughts?
